Crystal Sunset: a natural quartz that can be backlit

Crystal Sunset is a stone of African origin, mined in Angola from quarries owned by the group to which Galvani Trading belongs. This origin sets it apart from the other natural Brazilian quartz varieties in our catalog, as it alters the material’s aesthetic character—the result of a different geological history and unique natural conditions.

The stone features a predominantly crystalline white background, against which cool tones—such as blue and purple—meet warmer shades ranging from orange to red. The name evokes the chromatic contrast typical of autumn, a season in which temperatures, light, and colors seem to coexist and transform continuously.

The most striking feature of Crystal Sunset is the presence of transparent crystals that allow light to pass through them. Even without backlighting, the surface reveals a complex composition: white dominates the slab, while orange, red, blue, and purple create depth and movement. Crystal Sunset is quarried in Angola from company-owned quarries, a feature that allows Galvani Trading to directly verify the material’s origin, monitor its availability, and select blocks and slabs based on the project’s aesthetic requirements.

In the case of backlit applications, this selection becomes even more important, since two slabs of the same material may exhibit different crystal distributions, varying color gradients, and differing levels of translucency. Natural quartz cannot be treated as a uniform industrial surface: one must observe its pattern, understand which areas to highlight and which will stand out once installed, and anticipate how light will pass through the material.
